News:
July-Isaiah 41:10 "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
There is only one word to describe July and that is HOT. We were fortunate to catch a few nice rains however. The grass in the pasture is nearly knee deep and is rich with nutrients. All the horses are doing well and getting fat on the sweet grass. The foals are growing in leaps and bounds. Flirty Irish Chick or Flirt is showing off her agility daily and I am truly impressed with the way she can move at such a young age. She is stand offish but will tolerate handling if there is a need for it. Whiskey N Gin or Bear as he's being called is much calmer and nearly discouragingly becoming a dead head. He thrives on human affection and will leave his mother to seek it out. I've been pushing him away trying to encourage some desire of being a horse in his overly imprinted brain with out much success. I see a kid horse already in his soft eager eyes and when it's all said and done, there's nothing wrong with that.
June-Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
Half way through the year, time is going faster than ever. Breeding season is winding down and things are getting back to normal. The foals we were expecting for this year are here and healthy. Whiskey N' Gin is very smart and all boy. He's been the fastest learning foal I have ever dealt with. Flirty Irish Chick joined us last night and she is a handful. She's only hours old but is running around like a month old foal. It will be interesting to see which way her personality takes her.
May-Hebrews 13:16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
The wind has laid and rain has started. We are getting regular storms as is normal this time of year. We had a scare when a tornado touched down less then a mile away. It only hung around for a few seconds and then disappeared as quickly as it had come. If you haven't noticed already, we have a new little one. Born 3 weeks early, our new colt is on the small side, but thriving. Wanda is a good mother and he has not missed a step. We have also purchased a new mare, Ginny. Time is moving quickly and we are trying to keep up.
April- Matthew 28:6 He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay.
Happy Easter! Another month passes and I'm ready for the nice weather that will soon follow. But right now it's our windy time of year in the Texas Panhandle. It feels like being in front of a blow dryer all day. Simple chores to be done outside are now a battle of wits in the wind. But life must go on and we must keep busy. There are horses that need to be ridden, foals that need to be handled, and mares that need to be bred. Despite all the work and wind, I love this time of year!
March- John 3:17 For God did not send His son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world thru Him.
Wow it's already March. The grass has started to green up around the ranch and the trees are already beginning to bud. We don't have any foals due till May, but I'm anxiously awaiting their arrival. We have started checking the few selected mares that we are breeding this year to Doc. We have also started checking M.C. regularly in preparation for her to be bred to Playgun. And very soon we will have clients bringing in their mares to be bred. Spring is upon us!!
February- I John 2:28-29 And now, dear children, continue in Hyem, so that when He appears we may be confidant and unashamed before Him and His coming. If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of Him.
The breeding season is right around the corner and we are busy making arrangements for mares to be bred, deciding which mares will be bred this year, and making room for outside mares which will be arriving in waves over the next few months. It's a busy time for every one but it's worth it in the end to watch the foals running across the pasture in the spring. We had a blast at our sorting. Woody and I took 3rd place out of 48 teams in the 3 class. We left with a check and bragging rights! Woo Hoo
January- Psalm 23:1-3 The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads beside quiet waters, He restores my sole. He guides me in the path of righteousness for his name sake.
Happy New Year! 2009 is in the books and we all open a new book for 2010 with new year resolutions and a cold beer. ; ) It was a tough year for us with the horse market as low as it had been in years. With that in mind we are thinking very hard about how many and which mares will be bred this year. However, our plans are finalized for M.C. to be bred to Playgun. Here is to 2010 and hopes that it will be a better year for all!
